Vasco da Gama won’t count with striker Rossi, who is suspended for this game after getting his third yellow card, and to replace him they are trying to get 17 year old Talles Magno back from Brazil U17. Also, center back Castan is back from suspension.

Fluminense have defensive midfielder Allan coming back from suspension and right back Gilberto returning from their medical department, but playmaker Ganso is not available now after getting his third yellow card.

Injured/unavailable: Leo Santos (knee) and Mascarenhas (knee)

The fact that this is one of the biggest derbies in Brazil would be enough to make this an exciting game, but these two sides have been struggling against relegation and fighting at the bottom of the table, so we can expect a lot of effort from them, especially from the hosts who have been improving since coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo joined the team and if it weren’t for a terrible mistake the referee made in their league match last weekend, they would’ve been coming to this game from a win rather than the 2-1 away loss to Gremio.

With that loss, Vasco da Gama ended an unbeaten run that lasted for two matches and helped them get out of the relegation zone but they are now dangerously close to it again, they are now in the bottom four and with the same number of points as the team just above them, as well as the same number of points as Fluminense, who are placed just above Vasco after the 1-1 home draw to Ceara last Monday.

With that result, Fluminense increased their poor run – they come from five winless league matches – and without midfielder Ganso in this match, they will have trouble creating chances to score, which will give Vasco da Gama a good chance of getting the three points with a home win.

This is the sixth time Fluminense play as visitors in this year’s Brasileiro and four out of the five previous times they travelled back home after a high score game and now that Vasco da Gama coach’s ideas are starting to work properly, they’re becoming more dangerous and should score a few times, making this game end with a high score too.

This is the third time Vasco da Gama play against Fluminense in 2019. They hosted the two previous games as well and both ended 1-0 for them. Those were not league games, though, and in last year’s two encounters in the Brasileirao Vasco had good luck, too, staying unbeaten with a win and a draw.
