MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

Alex Neil’s men returned home disappointed on Tuesday night after walking away from the Riverside with only a point to show for their efforts. Middlesbrough had lost 4-1 in their previous home league game but were more impressive against Preston, limiting their visitors to just one shot on target. Saturday’s hosts remain unbeaten in seven though and sit in sixth place ahead of this weekend’s clash.

Connor Chaplin’s 95th minute equaliser against Derby on Wednesday night was the exact piece of luck Barnsley needed after a frustrating start to the season that has seen the Yorkshire side throw away points from silly positions. Daniel Stendel’s side are, however, now winless in nine league games and remain inside the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s games.

Barnsley may have pulled off an impressive result in midweek, but I expect them to struggle more this time out.

SECOND PREDICTION: FIRST TEAM TO SCORE – PRESTON

Preston have scored at least two goals in each of their last seven home Championship matches while Barnsley have failed to score in their last four on the road. The hosts have opened the scoring in eight of their ten league games this season.

HEAD TO HEAD

Four of the last five league meetings between these sides have ended as a stalemate.
