Fagiano went down 2-1 at Tokushima Vortis last weekend in J2. They led 1-0 at half time from a Hayato Nakama goal but conceded twice in the 2nd half to lose out. After losing four in five league games from late July, they appeared to have lost any chance of reaching the play-offs. They then proved doubters wrong with four wins in six league games and sat on the edge of the top six last weekend only to lose to a rival looking for that play-off place. They are still only two points from 6th place so will not have given up yet but they host a team that is in a similar situation and V-Varen will be looking for the win to keep their hopes alive.

V-Varen went down to a 2-0 home defeat to JEF United Chiba last weekend in J2. That loss has left them six points away from the play-offs and they probably feel their hopes are ended and that loss will certainly have dented their confidence. They are up against a team that also lost last week, and will also have lost momentum, but Fagiano are four points better off than V-Varen.

After the shock of the loss last week – at home, too – V-Varen will know that this is their last chance to stay in touch and the likes of Hiroto Goya, who have done so much this season, need to give their all in this to keep their season alive. Manager Makoto Teguramori is experienced and will know how to motivate his team to the win.

With seven goals in the first 10 minutes of their matches this season, V-Varen tend to start fast. They have 23 goals in the 1st half (Fagiano have just 15). It will be a close game but V-Varen can score first. They then have to close up shop as Fagiano have 30 2nd half goals in 2019!

With V-Varen in J1 last season, the last time these two met before Fagiano's 3-2 away victory earlier this season in the league, was in 2017, when each team won their home game in J2 meetings.
