Ardija were held to a 1-1 away draw at Zweigen Kanazawa last weekend in J2's final matchday of the season proper, so failed in their bid to get automatic promotion, but were never going to lose hold of 3rd place and take home advantage into the first round of the promotion play-offs. They did not seem too urgently playing for the win as they could not go up after FC Yokohama had taken a 2-0 lead but they were clear in 3rd place and so kept home advantage for the play-offs. This season they have 18 clean sheets in league play, they may well concentrate on the defensive side of their game today and wait for breaks if and when they come.

In their final matchday of J2 proper, Shuhei Otsuki gave Montedio the lead just after half time at home to relegation-threatened Machida Zelvia, but then conceded two goals in the final 11 minutes of normal time to lose 2-1 and drop from 4th place (and home advantage in the play-offs) to 6th and a tie at Omiya Ardija. Montedio actually qualified on the fact that they scored three more goals than Mito HollyHock – who ended the season on the same number of points and with the same goal difference!

Ardija will do enough to progress here today, a draw is enough for Ardija. Expect them to be conservative in their play.

These teams have conceded just 40 goals each this season and both are adept in defence. Since Ardija need only a draw to progress, we may see the home team packing their area and looking only for counter-attacks and errors by their visitors.

In J2 matches between these two teams this season each team won their home game, Ardija 3-2, Montedio 1-0, while last season saw a home win for Ardija and an away draw.
