Bielefeld built a 3-0 lead in the first twenty minutes of their visit to Karlsruher Sunday, only to have to settle for a single point from a 3-3 draw. The result was enough to keep Uwe Neuhaus and crew undefeated in 2020 heading back home for their season finale. Bielefeld has already secured the league title, but can have a say Sunday in which club finishes third and has a shot to join them in moving to the first division.

In what will likely go down in club history as one of their biggest moments, Heidenheim turned a late 1-0 deficit to a 2-1 win over Hamburg to leapfrog the promotion favorites and seize control of their chances at moving to Germany’s first division. Heidenheim struggled to handle the waves of attack from the high-powered Hamburg side, but managed a scoreless first half. Frank Schmidt’s side were barely back on the pitch before the 1-0 fell for their guests, but Heidenheim increased their own offensive efforts to provide for the dramatic finish. The victory put Heidenheim in the top three for the first time since the first weekend of the season.

Bielefeld may wish to stay undefeated, but are facing a highly motivated squad with a stingy defense. Look for Heidenheim to be boosted by their opportunity and knockoff the league champions to earn their shot at promotion.

This fixture features two of the league’s best defenses. Bielefeld has allowed a league-low 30 goals. Heidenheim’s 33 goals allowed is the second-fewest.

Bielefeld and Heidenheim played to a scoreless draw in December, the fifth draw in the last six fixtures in the league between them.
