Midfielder Gonzalo Castro will return from a one-match ban that forced him to miss Stuttgart’s 6-0 win over Nurnberg. Stuttgart clinched a top-three finish with last Sunday’s results. Central defender Nathaniel Phillips missed the match with a slight knock.

Midfielder Tobias Kempe returned to the Darmstadt squad for their 3-1 win over neighboring Wehen. Central defender Immanuel Hohn has returned to team training on a limited basis.

Injured/unavailable: Mathias Wittek (knee)

Following their 6-0 win at Nurnberg, Stuttgart celebrated a virtual promotion to the Bundesliga. Their result, plus Hamburg’s loss, guaranteed Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side a top-three spot. With a plus-eleven goal-differential advantage over Heidenheim, the only club that can catch them on points, Stuttgart is essentially assured of second place and automatic promotion to Germany’s top flight. Matarazzo has said he is focused on finishing with a home win over a strong Darmstadt side before really celebrating.

Darmstadt turned an early 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 win over visiting Wehen Sunday. The home side was put under pressure early from their guests, as Wehen were aggressive early and took the lead by the fifth minute. Darmstadt was slow to match the intensity of the relegation-threatened Wehen in the early going, but eventually took control of the match, leading to the decisive win.

With Stuttgart’s dominance the last two matchdays, don’t be surprised if they extend their celebration with another win.

Darmstadt have been kept completely off the scoreboard in their last two away matches. The only goal Stuttgart have allowed in their last two at home came after they had a four-goal lead.

Last December's 1-1 between these two clubs was their sole 2. Bundesliga meeting in recent years.
