FFA’s decision to move this fixture to Sunday has allowed Sydney to have Rhyan Grant and Andrew Redmayne available after Socceroos duty in Jordan. New Zealand international Kosta Barbarouses is also available after deciding to sit out his country’s friendlies.

Victory, on the other hand, lose Kenny Athiu, Elvis Kamsoba, Storm Roux and Thomas Deng to international duty in a significant blow.

Sydney FC

Suspended: None

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Trent Buhagiar (ACL), Chris Zuvela (ACL), Ben Warland (ACL), Ryan Teague (international duty)

Melbourne Victory

Suspended: None

Doubtful: None

Injured/unavailable: Matt Acton (shoulder), Robbie Kruse (hamstring), Tim Hoogland (quad), Andrew Nabbout (hamstring), Birkan Kirdar (international duty), Thomas Deng (international duty), Kenny Athiu (international duty), Elvis Kamsoba (international duty), Storm Roux (international duty)

Fourth-placed Sydney freshened up last round with the bye, having enjoyed a solid start to the season with three victories from their four games. The Sky Blues have dodged any bullets with international duty and have won both of their home fixtures this term.

Victory is down in seventh with just one win from their five matches so far, including a 1-1 home draw with bottom-placed Wellington last round. Victory’s only triumph this season came in their only away match this term, so they’ll enjoy getting out of Victoria.

Despite that, Sydney appears too strong given form and personnel. Victory’s international absentees hurt but they’re still also missing injured Socceroos pair Andrew Nabbout and Robbie Kruse and boom recruit Tim Hoogland. I’m with the hosts.

The past five Big Blues (Sydney-Victory match-ups) have all yielded more than 2.5 goals scored. There’s always tension in these matches and free-flowing football. I’ll back that to continue.

Sydney has won the past two meetings with Victory, including a 6-1 thrashing last time out at Jubilee Stadium. Prior to that Victory had won two Big Blues in a row.
