UEFA European Championship-- Spain VS Malta

Spain: Start experimenting ( Recent Form: W W W D D )

With twenty points from eight European Championship qualifying matches, as expected, Spain had no trouble securing its European Championship ticket. From now on, national coach Robert Moreno can work in peace at the European Championships next year and also use the remaining two European Championship qualifiers for some experimentation. The current Spanish selection contains at least some interesting names. One of them is former Ajax-target Dani Olmo (Dinamo Zagreb), who could start directly in the base against Malta. Defender Pau Torres (Villarreal) can also hope for his debut alongside the refined Sergio Ramos. Jose Luis Gaya, Fabian and Mikel Oyarzabal are also relatively wet behind the intended basic eleven, although the latter two in particular are in top form again this season. Well-known names such as David de Gea and Sergio Busquets are probably starting on the bench and players like Jordi Alba and Isco didn't even get an invitation at all, but La Roja still has enough quality left over.

Malta: Seven defeats without scoring ( Recent Form: L L L L L )

Malta is of course not and will never be a European high flyer. Michael Mifsud, by far the most famous football player from the island from the Mediterranean, defended the colors of clubs such as Kaiserslautern and Coventry City in the distant past. The Messi of Malta is still active at the age of 38 and, for lack of better, is still in the national team. Just like Mifsud, almost all players are still active in their own Maltese Premier League, a competition that of course you can hardly take seriously. It is therefore no surprise that with only three points from eight European Championship qualifiers, Malta dangles at the very bottom of group F, even among fellow football dwarf Faroe Islands. The Maltese Knights only managed to score twice in this European Championship qualifying series and received no fewer than eighteen goals. In addition, coach Ray Farrugia cannot appeal to defender Steve Borg against Spain due to a suspension. So it seems that there is little honor for Malta on Friday night in Cadiz.

After all, it is the third time in history that Malta is visiting Spain. One of those was of course the notorious 12-1 victory, as a result of which Spain managed to qualify at the expense of the Netherlands for the European Championship of 1984. The other two games both ended in 4-0. Even now I expect a similar result. Malta will of course park the bus, hoping to minimize the damage. Spain will of course win, but the absolute necessity to put down a monster score is not present. I therefore opt for the Malta +5 bet.
