MATCH PREVIEW

MAIN PREDICTION: HOME WIN

Los Angeles FC were 2-0 road victors over Real Salt Lake last weekend with goals from Carlos Vela (PK) and Adama Diomande in the 64th and 82nd minutes. Walker Zimmerman was sent off with a second yellow card in the 48th minute but Real was also down to ten men 14 minutes later. Man of the match Vela now has 15 assists along with his league-best 24 goals to set a new league record for points in a year. LAFC has four straight league wins and with 58 points are comfortably leading the league and Western Conference with a playoff appearance being just a formality.

A 2-1 defeat away to Sporting Kansas City last weekend extended San Jose's league winless streak to three games at two losses and a draw. Chris Wondolowski scored his tenth goal of the season to give San Jose a 25th-minute lead but Sporting struck back with goals in the 50th and 76th minutes. On the bright side, San Jose has lost just three of the last 14 league matches with eight victories and three draws but they need to turn the ship around quickly if they hope to retain their playoff position. They are in sixth place in the West with 38 points, just a point ahead of eighth-place Dallas.

San Jose has three wins, three draws and six away losses while Los Angeles is the league's only unbeaten team at home with 10 wins and a draw. I expect an LAFC win.

SECOND PREDICTION: HILO – HIGH

This local derby has produced an average of 4.5 goals per meeting in their four clashes and with LAFC scoring 34 goals an 11 home league matches I like the odds of a high-scoring clash.

HEAD TO HEAD

Los Angeles FC won 3-1 in the US Open Cup in June and they have won all three league meetings by a combined score of 11-3.
