Spanish La Liga -- Leganes VS Alaves

Leganes: Is under heavy pressure ( Recent Form: L W L D L )

The alarm phase is now red at Leganes. The Madrilenians lost 1-0 last week with co-low flyer Celta de Vigo, causing them to sink even further in the swamp of the Spanish relegation zone. The backlog in the safe seventeenth place in LaLiga has meanwhile risen to five points, so Leganes has to take points like weed. To be honest, I give Leganes little chance of retention. The blue and white were recently robbed of the attacking duo Youssef En-Nesyri (Sevilla) and Martin Braithwaite (FC Barcelona). Together they accounted for ten of the total of eighteen league hits from Los Pepineros. In the current selection, offensive midfielder Oscar Rodriguez is the only player to have scored more than one goal this season, and in five of her last six games, the team didn't even score at all. Leganes will continue to fight to the bitter end to avoid relegation, but with so little scoring power you naturally make it extremely difficult for yourself.

Alaves: Is doing well ( Recent Form: L D W L W )

Alaves, on the other hand, is doing well. The Basques won 2-1 last week against fellow countryman Athletic Bilbao, with which they are now eight points away from the relegation zone. Captain Manu Garcia, however, realizes that the job is not done yet: "Only when we have reached the magic limit of forty points can we breathe quietly." With just two defeats in the seven competition duels of 2020, trainer Asier Garitano is doing a great job at Alaves. The selection of El Glorioso on paper is not even that much better than that of Leganes, but the big difference is that the club from Vitoria scores a lot easier. The attacking duo Lucas Perez and Joselu alone, together with nineteen goals, scored more often than Leganes throughout this season (and almost twice as many if we do not include the goals of En-Nesyri and Braithwaite). The two together with Seville mercenary Aleix Vidal really make the difference.

After all, I was actually going to ignore this race, but after seeing the juicy odds, I couldn't resist a small bet on away team 0.5. The bookmakers apparently all expect a resounding victory for Leganes, but after the departure of Braithwaite and En-Nesyri the home club hardly has any goal scorers left. With Perez and Joselu, Alaves does have quite a bit of scoring ability, and, as said, came out of the winter break quite nicely. I therefore consider a draw or maybe even a victory to be possible.
