Despite picking up a slight knock earlier, Lukas Grozurek should be available for Karlsruher.

Hamburg captain Aaron Hunt suffered a groin strain and continues to be unavailable. Central defender Ewerton injured his ankle in a training session, further delaying his Hamburg debut.

After starting the season with two league wins and advancement to the second round of the DFB Cup, Karlsruher ran into a Holstein Kiel team ready for their own first victory of the season, putting the brakes on the early-season party for trainer Alois Schwartz and crew.

Hamburg used a hard-fought win over Bochum last Friday night to surge to the top of the 2. Bundesliga table, and once the dust settled on the remainder of the match day, Hamburg remained at the top.

Hamburg have allowed just one goal this season, having posted consecutive clean sheets since their opening weekend draw. Karlsruhe has scored seven, though six of those goals came against Wehen and Dresden. Hamburg will provide Karlsruher its toughest test thus far. Take Hamburg to find a way to stay at the top of the 2. Bundesliga table with an away win.

Hamburg has proven it can limit opponents’ scoring chances. Playing on the road, expect Dieter Hecking’s crew to leverage their defensive strengths to lead them to their offensive opportunities rather than forcing things, making goal chances somewhat scarce on both ends.

Karlsruher and Hamburg have never met in 2. Bundesliga play. Their most-recent meetings came in the relegation playoffs in 2015. Hamburg won the second leg of the match in Karlsruhe in extra time after regulation was unable to settle the matter. Karlsruhe had not lost at home to Hamburg otherwise since 1998.
